Yellowstone

Photos from my trip to Yellowstone a couple years ago with my long time friend Plaidworthy and his girlfriend Laura.  They met there while working at the park one summer so I had the best tour guides possible.  It was one of the most amazing places I've ever seen and a trip I will never forget.  I can't wait to take my wife and daughter one day.  Hopefully Plaid and Laura will meet us :)

Starting To Look Like Dad

When Lyla was born she came out looking like a replica of Catherine as a baby. But now at a little over 2 months, she is starting to resemble me a little.  It's kinda cool! Of course I hope she looks more like her mom than me for her sake :)

Having a kid is fun! (and really hard work)

As hard as it is to be taking care of a new baby, all Lyla has to do is look at me and I melt. This doesn't bode well for future "Dad, can I?" decisions.

Better Get Used To It Kid

It's probably going to be a little annoying having a father who is a photographer. My wife was pretty laid back about it for the first 10 years or so.  She bought me my first manual film camera after we first got together so she had to put up with it for a time I guess :)

Holga Fun!

Here is a great website with tons of useful information on the Holga camera!
http://www.squarefrog.co.uk/

This is starting to be my go to camera when I take Lyla out for a walk, since I'm either wearing her or pushing a stroller. It's an ultra-light plastic camera and it shoots medium format film!  I've always had some trouble figuring out the exposure and development times to get the results I'm looking for, but now I found this website with a lot of answers.  If you don't have one this is a great chance to try shooting film and they are super cheap. You can get them at BandH Photo for $30-$50.

Family

This is my dad. He died from cancer when I was 16. It's something that I still haven't recovered from.  I can't really talk about him to people without getting upset. Crazy since i'm 37 now, but things don't seem that long ago. It makes me think about how fleeting our lives are and then I am thankful to have had such a great father and now a beautiful daughter. Occasionally when I'm holding her I see glimpses of my dad.  This is such a wonderful feeling, like a reunion.

Terrence McManus

It was great to get out last night and hear my friend Terry play some solo guitar! Terry is one of the most interesting guitar players I've heard. Not only does he build his guitar, play it with screwdrivers, bows and paintbrushes (and creates beautiful music) he also makes his own barbecue sauces :)

I usually forget that my dslr can shoot video but last night I was messing around with it and had some fun. Could have used a tripod though.

Check out more of Terry's music here: http://terrence-mcmanus.com/

Day Two (really day one)

Cat headed to her root canal specialist this morning (yikes!) and Lyla and I were left to ourselves.  As I was holding Lyla she kinda gave me a look like "do you know what you're doing?" and I looked back - "not really."  Compared to Lyla's hazing of daddy on day one, today she was an angel.  I hope every day is half as good as today.  We took a walk to the post office with her strapped to my chest and later a walk through Prospect Park in the stroller.  Lots of home activities like playing piano, playing Lyla's magic piano, the baby gym (pictured above), story time, tummy time and don't forget the swing and bouncy chair!  It was truly a beautiful day.

Day One

Well my first day on the job was not what I expected.  Sadly my wife could not return to work because she needed an emergency dental appointment that I'm guessing will result in a root canal.  Lyla who didn't sleep much last night or this morning is taking a power nap.  Then we will go for a walk and enjoy this 60 degree weather!

You gotta hand it to Fisher Price.  They know where to put their red tag so that every time I take a photo of my daughter in her bouncy chair they get free advertising :)

Eugene Chadbourne

Eugene Chadbourne definitely gets the award for coolest CD covers.  I ordered these from his website: http://www.eugenechadbourne.com/
They are all homemade and totally funky!  The best one is the two CD set "Jungle Cookies - Bizarre Audio Montage!!!!" that is in a box of Barilla Plus Penne and sealed with one of Eugene's luggage tags from a trip to Palese, Italy.

I haven't listened yet but I already like this guy A LOT :)

Seung-Hee pt.2

Had a blast taking photos for Seung-Hee today :)

check out her music here:

Seung-Hee

Today I have a photo shoot with vocalist Seung-Hee.  This photo is from her gig at Cornelia Street Cafe in 2011.  An added bonus is that she lives in the neighborhood only a few blocks away and it's a beautiful day - almost 60 degrees in March.

My wife has a toothache that I'm hoping will go away with out the dreaded root canal.  I think she already has had a couple of those.  If Lyla is lucky she will inherit my teeth, not her mother's.

meet Lyla

Lyla was born on January 16th, 2012.  This blog is a chance for me to share my life as a photographer and stay-at-home dad.  Should be fun :)
